Fruit Tree Pruning
A one-day course to explain the principles of fruit tree pruning, the use of tools and how to sharpen them. This will be followed by a practical demonstration in Chris's commercial orchard on how to prune new trees, and another in a different orchard on how to rescue old and neglected fruit trees.
You will be able to practise on several types of trees during the day, with supervision. Chris's methods will give you confidence to deal with your own trees, without having to look at the books on the subject.
On the May course, we will be able to prune plums & cherries, as well as apples & pears.
On the November course, we will concentrate on apples and pears, but Chris will answer questions on those trees that cannot be pruned in winter.
STUDENTS' COMMENTS:
Totally enjoyable and very informative. Covered exactly what I needed to know. It was such a friendly course and in a lovely setting. Anne's cooking is wonderful!
Fabulous course! Informative and entertaining. Food delicious and the landrover ride a bonus. Stella G.
Very impressed. Sorted out my concerns. Now more confident and ready to utilise my new skills. Lunch and refreshments lovely. An excellent day.
This course has exceeded expectations in a most unique venue with peace and quiet. Really interesting to meet like minded people as having an orchard is a lonely occupation. Chris was so knowledgeable and hands on pruning superb, as was the catering. YC
Great day, thoroughly enjoyed it and the adventure in the landrover. Fabulous setting for workshops. Pauline A.
Really good course. Very well presented and practical consolidated the tuition, which was very important. Has given me a lot of confidence. Andy L.

Just wanted to follow up on your feedback form, and say how much I enjoyed the Pruning Course. I thought Chris was terrific - down to earth and practical - a wonderful antidote to all the technical stuff in gardening books. I thought the practical element was brilliant. I really came away thinking I could tackle anything. Your hospitality and the absolutely delicious food made it a memorable day. Oh, and did I mention the beautiful location. I honestly can't think how you could improve it. Many, many thanks, Olly
Wasn't sure it would be worth as much as it cost, especially for two of us, but felt it was really good value. And the food was excellent. Thanks.
The afternoon pruning session was particularly helpful as the trees were more like garden trees, so I could relate to them more than the commercially grown type trees. Very good day. Thank you.
