Photography - black & white
Explore traditional black and white photography on vintage and antique cameras using the landscape and architecture of Assington Mill as an artistic subject to capture. Enjoy taking your own photographs on a selection of folding large and medium format cameras and then developing your own negatives and then making contact prints simply and easily from these.
The photography course will consist of short talks on techniques and instruction, the taking of photographs and then the processing of these using basic and traditional processing that we can carry out at the Mill.
Taking photographs- using 10x8” 5x4” and other formats including Panoramic and Pin Hole Cameras
We will take photographs in the field and then process them ourselves in the developing tray during the course.
Setting up and composing landscapes in situ around Assington Mill. Looking for interesting angles and treatments of the landscape and architecture and rural environment using an artistic approach.
The course will introduce topics including composition, contrast, grain, depth of field, perspective.
Techniques- tuition will be given on film types, development and contact printing from large negatives by doing it with the tutor, the very ‘hands on’ course will allow the participant explore their own creative approach with different equipment and film types and treatments.
The course will include discussion of the merits of different approaches and the success of different treatments both artistic and technical from the work we produce.
