This is a practical course in designing and weaving fabrics on table
looms. It is suitable for all levels of ability. Both beginners and more
experienced weavers are welcome. The content of the course is
flexible with the primary aim of giving each student the confidence to
continue weaving at home in his or hers own chosen field of woven
textiles.
Students may choose to weave a small finished product such as a
scarf, set of cushions, table mats, or weave a sample blanket exploring
the design possibilities of a particular weave structure.
Subjects that can be covered include:
A proven method for making a warp and dressing a table loom.
Designing stripes,
Choosing colour.
Calculating setts and material quantities.
Exploring 4 -shaft weave structures.
Exploring 8-shaft weave structures.
Exploring rug weave structures
Reading patterns from books and magazines.
Evening sessions will include discussions on yarn samples, weaving
books and fabrics in general.
There will be an afternoon visit to a local place of textile interest.
All equipment can be provided, but students are encouraged to bring
their own looms and ancillary equipment.
Materials will be supplied at a cost of £15 each.
