Mosaic - the Art of
Mosaic is a wonderfully versatile medium. Using a range of colours and materials, you can transform simple designs into beautiful mosaics which will last forever!
Course content:
Over the two days you will be introduced to the varied art of mosaic - A little of the history and a lot about the materials.
The course enables you to explore techniques and materials whilst making an individual piece of work. We will be working mainly with the direct method which is sticking tiles directly to the surface. The materials available are glass and ceramic tesserae, bathroom tiles, old china, buttons, mirror and other recycled materials, all in a range of colours from subtle to vibrant.
The weekend will provide all the basic techniques of cutting, laying and grouting. This will give you the skills needed to complete further and more ambitious projects at home!
Personalise your work with any old bits of broken crockery or jewellery you can’t bear to throw away – embed them into the mosaic and keep them forever.
Panels will be provided, but if you have something you would like to mosaic, such as a tabletop, pot or mirror, then you are welcome to bring these along. By the end of the weekend you will have completed a panel of between A4-A3 in size.
The course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience of mosaic who want to experiment further or try something a bit more ambitious.
There will be plenty of books to hand for design ideas, should you need them.
If you would like to discuss your requirements before the course, Anne can be contacted on 01206 870337 or by email anneschweg [at] gmail [dot] com www.myspace.com/anneschwegmannfielding

Comments from participants:
The mosaic weekend was excellent. I believe we all came away fired with enthusiasm. Anne was able to appropriate an equal amount of time with each person. Her guidance was gentle and never rode roughshod over one's ideas. I haven't yet finished my table but each day I cut and place another tile - I can't wait to finish but would rather take my time to get the best result. Thanks you once again for a most satisfying experience. Maureen Dobson
