Spin a yarn - from fleece to fabric
This day workshop aims to cover the basics of woollen spinning including suitable sheep fleeces, preparation for spinning, how to use a wheel and other equipment involved. There will be a demonstration of the processes ranging from carding the raw fleece to knitted samples.
We will begin the day by preparing some fleece (provided) and talking through the stages required to achieve a quality yarn to knit with. Demonstrations and an opportunity to share ideas will be possible. The aim is to give information and guidance to beginners and intermediates alike for creative ideas to try at home, e.g. knitting products, weaving, dyeing, felting and websites for buying equipment.
Flat shoes are recommended.
If you have any fleece or dog hair, mohair or anything else you have a yearning to have spun, please bring that along.
If you have your own wheel, or can borrow one for the day, please do bring it along, otherwise the course is limited to four people. The wheel must be in perfect working condition as the tutor will not have time to do repairs. Any other spinning equipment, i.e. carders, would be useful.
COURSE AVAILABILITY: 4 spaces left (August 2010)
