Janet Phillips
Janet studied Industrial Textile DEsign at the Scottish College of Textiles, graduating with a 1st class Honours Degree and the Dr Oliver medal for the best design student for 1972.
She worked in industry for several years before buying a 16-shaf George Wood Dobby loom and started her career as a commission weaver. She initially wove floor rugs, but finally specialised in weaving original fabrics for clothing and interiors for private clients. She stopped this work in 2009. After sitting weaving yardage for thirty-five years, she is now concentrating on passing on her passion and knowledge to others, by teaching courses and writing books.
She does still produce a small collection of silk scarves each year.
