Olivia Elton Barratt

Potted Biography

I became a basketmaker and chair seater by chance, after seeing some examples of willow and rush work, and falling in love with the craft.

I became interested in coracles when I was asked by an enthusiast to interpret some photographs of the remains of an ancient Scottish coracle, the 'Spey'. We made the coracle, I learned to paddle it, and fell in love all over again. This has all led to much learning, much teaching, a chance to write books on the craft, friends and connections around the world - and a housefull of baskets, my own and other people's.
